Traveling with Ellie Mae
Pacific Point Resort is dog friendly, and I had my golden retriever, Ellie Mae, with me. She had just turned one, which is the age where she knows the rules and has decided they’re negotiable.

If you’re looking for a dog-friendly hotel in Pismo Beach, here’s some practical intelligence I wish someone had given me.
The dog fee is $100 for the whole stay, not per night. That’s a real number, but it’s a per-stay number, which puts it well ahead of the places that charge you $75 a night and act like they’re doing you a favor. For it, you get bowls, a bed and blanket, and treats waiting in the room.
The crate fits in the closet. This was my favorite discovery of the entire trip and it cost nothing. I set her crate inside the closet and left the closet door open. It took up zero floor space in a room where floor space matters, and Ellie got a dark little cave to sleep in. She loved it.

Budget three minutes each way for bathroom trips. From the fourth floor, the routine was: elevator down, out the door, walk two or three minutes to the dog relief area. It’s AstroTurf with a fake fire hydrant, and honestly, it was more convenient than I expected. But if you have a puppy on a young bladder or a senior dog on a schedule, do that math before you book a high floor. You can even get a room right next to the dog relief area, if that’s your cup of tea.
Your dog may be suspicious about the elevator. Ellie did not care for it. She did the thing where she braced all four legs like the floor was betraying her personally. By day two she had accepted it as the price of going outside, which is roughly how I feel about airport security.
