Legal Ombudsmen Scheme Rules do not state that the complainant must be a firm’s client


The Law Society published an article about firms potentially being accountable for complaints from third parties who are not clients. The article highlights that the Legal Ombudsmen Scheme Rules do not state that the complainant must be a firm’s client, to fall within its jurisdiction.

Firms should note this guidance and the risks when dealing with individuals who are not clients.
