Port Aransas Marina

BREAK IT DOWN

After a week of successes at our painting workshop in Port Aransas, on the last day, everyone decided to tackle boats. Uh Oh, this requires accurate drawing skills, but if there is one thing I don’t want to discourage, it’s getting out of your comfort zone. We set up at dusk, facing the marina, while I explained that boats are just a series of rectangles and triangles. If you break it down to the light and dark side and stack the shapes, it will become a boat! Above is my small demonstration. For the most part, what can I say? Things didn’t work out as we hoped. Still, courage to tackle hard subjects and determination will go a long way to acquiring the skills needed to paint anything! By the way, painting those little bitty lines is almost impossible with a small brush, so I usually use a sishkabob stick to scratch in the lines or a palette knife loaded to lay in white lines. Realizing the difficulty of a subject does not mean that you can’t do it! It just means you might need a little more time and practice. BE BOLD!
