Our hostess’s house at the workshop in Port Aransas is right on the beach with a great view of the dunes and the ocean. The biggest advantage was that we could paint in all weather. And Boy, did we have weather! The wind was blowing so hard that we had to anchor our easels with sandbags, but the fabulous clouds and wild surf made for dramatic paintings! Luckily, I remembered to bring an old, stiff toothbrush: the ideal tool for painting spray. First, mix a pile of white paint with solvent so it is runny. Then, using your finger, splatter the paint, staying close to where you want the spray on your canvas. If you want bigger droplets, use thicker paint. The scene was monochromatic, so I only used 2 colors plus white. Viridian Green and Alizarine Crimson are Complementary Colors, so when mixed, they will give you wonderful grey purples and deep greens. We used this color scheme all week as the skies changed minute to minute.
