A selection of personal and commissioned work by New York-based illustrator Xiao Hua Yang. Yang’s work centres on quiet, in-between moments. Often grounded in everyday settings with subtle shifts in atmosphere, Yang explores familiar spaces that feel slightly foreign or at a distance.
“I often introduce subtle shifts in lighting and colour to suggest a story that remains ambiguous and open to interpretation. The images are not so much about what I want the viewers to see, but about what they discover for themselves within them. I’m interested in the possibility of holding various truths at once, even if none is fully defined.”
