I am delighted to share my review today for Nobody’s Fool by Harlan Coben. This is a fabulously intense thriller.
My huge thanks to Random House UK for accepting my request to read this title via NetGalley.

In this stunningly twisty thriller, a secret from former Detective Sami Kierce’s college days comes back to haunt him. His memory is clear, but all these years later, the facts don’t add up…which is something he cannot ignore.
Sami Kierce, a young college grad backpacking in Spain with friends, wakes up one morning, covered in blood. There’s a knife in his hand. Beside him, the body of his girlfriend. Anna. Dead. He doesn’t know what happened. His screams drown out his thoughts—and then he runs.
Twenty-two years later, Kierce, now a private investigator, is a new father who’s working off his debts by doing low level surveillance jobs and teaching wannabe sleuths at a night school in New York City. One evening, he recognizes a familiar face at the back of the classroom. Anna. It’s unmistakably her. As soon as Kierce makes eye contact with her, she bolts. For Kierce there is no choice. He knows he must find this woman and solve the impossible mystery that has haunted his every waking moment since that terrible day.
His investigation will bring him face-to-face with his past—and prove, after all this time, he’s nobody’s fool.
MY REVIEW
When Sami Kierce was out with friends in Spain he fell for a woman called Anna. He was supposed to be back-packing but stayed with Anna until he woke up next to her. She was dead, he had the murder weapon in his hand. He did the only thing he could think of… and ran.
Twenty-two years later, Sami is now a PI and teaches a class. He was once on the force but was kicked out. One of the arrests he made was for the murder of his ex, but now this man has been released. Oh, and Anna came to see him and then ran off before he could ask her any questions!
This is such a tense and quite involved story, several things are going on but they are clear and well laid out. The author introduces the characters, gives the basics of the plot and then adds more and more details as the story unfolds. Thinking about the plot ow as I am writing this review I realise just how complex it is, I was aware of this at the time but now I have finished the book I can appreciate it a lot more.
I do like Sami, he has history and experience but I got the feeling that he is still looking for something in his life to make sense, this becomes more obvious as the story unfolds. The author shows Sami’s vulnerabilities and uses them to good effect.
The plot is one that just keeps taking the reader deeper and deeper, it becomes filled with more tension, suspense and intrigue. Many things are waiting to be answered and up until they are it feels like a game of cat and mouse. Those who are in the know are not likely to let things slip and there is more than one reason for people to hold back some of their most private thoughts and secrets.
This is a book for fans who do like tense and complex thrillers, mysteries and crime books. This one does have a good psychological element to it and this adds a lot to how Sami deals with the case in front of him. Fabulous story, very addictive and one I would definitely recommend.
Many thanks for reading my post, alike or share would be amazing 🙂 xx
