The time of year plays a significant part in this mystery and suspense novel. Snow and gales surround this luxury holiday home and yet some decide to visit caves where someone has died there before. All very eerie.
The new family are a bit odd and mostly unlikable. From the start we know that they all have something to hide and the protagonist, telling the story in the first person, witnesses some of it but is unable to prove it. When the rich father introduces his fiancee, who is considerably younger than him, to the family, most are not impressed. Plus she is the exact image of their dead mother. Then she disappears.
The story has two timelines and a couple of different viewpoints expressed in the third person, mostly from the past. It is an easy book to read and the tension increases as the tale unfolds, the mystery is solved and everything is tied up to a certain satisfaction in the end. But not before there are a few deaths and a few revelations.
This book is bound to be a success and will please the ever increasing fans of the author.
