This week’s topic for Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, is to set out the year’s reading goals.
I’m not setting a huge amount of reading and blogging goals this year, as I want to enjoy reading without it becoming a hugely onerous task. I like challenges though, so I’m setting myself 5 goals this year.
1. To read at least 70 novels in 2025
Through a combination of reading physical books, ebooks and ‘ear reading’ audiobooks, I was able to read 77 books in 2024.
This year, I hope to begin studying towards an MA in September, so I know that I will be aiming high to hit 70.
The first physical book that I’m reading this year is ‘Wicked’ by Gregory Maguire.

2. To review every novel that I read in 2025
I want to make more of an effort to write a review for everything I read this year, even if it’s just a sentence. Even if it’s just a few words on GoodReads.
I’ve just finished reading ‘Butter’ by Asako Yuzuki. You can read my very brief 4 star review here.

3. To keep my NetGalley TBR list to fewer than 5 books, and to review them before their publication date
I am so grateful to be able to get free ARCs through NetGalley, and I’ve read some fabulous books from there over the last few years. However, I know that, once I get more than five books lined up on there, I start to feel the pressure to read them before picking up anything else.
My current NetGalley shelf:
- ‘Life Hacks for a Little Alien’ by Alice Franklin
- ‘Everyone in the Group Chat Dies’ by L.M.Chilton
- ‘The Retirement Plan’ by Sue Hincenbergs
- ‘The Other Wife’ by Jackie Thomas-Kennedy

4. To get better at putting a book down if I’m not enjoying it
I’m a completionist and find it really difficult to justify shelving a book that I’m not enjoying. I’m pretty picky when it comes to selecting titles, but I’ve still persevered with some really awful books in the past out of a sense of obligation. To whom, though? The author? The publisher? Myself? Goodness knows!
What I do know, is that there are far too many books out there to bother reading anything that I’m not enjoying.

5. To take part in more Top Ten Tuesday posts
I used to really enjoy writing these blog posts, and having the chance to compare notes with the rest of the book blogging community. I’m looking forward to reconnecting with my fellow bloggers in 2025.
