My review and thoughts on Steven and Maggie: Maggie’s Birthday Surprise
This is a fun picture book with some great illustrations too. It’s Maggie’s birthday tomorrow and she’s all excited and Steve promises to bake her a cake, a chocolate cake. So Steve and Maggie make a list of all the ingredients for the cake, and head to the shops to buy everything they’ll need for the cake and party. However, when coming back home a disaster happens and they lose all the ingredients they bought. Maggie is upset about the loss of the chance to eat a chocolate cake, but will her birthday party work out in the end? The paperback is filled with thick glossy pages of some fun illustrations and text.
Maggie and Steve head to the shops for the ingredients for her birthday cake and party, but while there, a few mishaps occur, leading to a final disaster on the way home. Maggie is still excited for her birthday though and Steve tries his best to make it go well with a fun surprise at the end. This picture book is based on the Steve and Maggie YouTube show which I personally haven’t seen prior to reading this book, and although I think this book will be more fun for fans of the show than those who aren’t, it still can be read by those that haven’t seen it and it has a lovely ending with something nice happening for Maggie that’s unexpected.
The illustrations are so fun, and when you see what the real Steve and Maggie look like, they are a good likeness too. The way the characters look in the book, their expressions when things are happening is fun to see, and I love the really colourful pages which make every image even more fun to look at. The last page explains a little more about the real Steve and Maggie, along with a picture. Overall it’s a fun picture book which will probably be appreciated much more by fans of Steve and Maggie than those who haven’t seen the show, but a fun story and picture book nonetheless. 🙂
