Halle Bailey has officially stepped into her solo era with the release of her long-awaited debut album, love?…or something like it. The 15-track project, now available on all platforms, marks her most personal release to date, telling the story of first love, heartbreak, and everything that comes after.
Crafted over several years, the album explores the emotional highs and lows of young love, reflecting on the vulnerability that comes with giving yourself fully to someone, and the confusion that lingers when it’s over. In Halle’s words, “The songs capture the highs and lows of first love and the self-discovery that follows. The album traces the arc of my journey—falling headfirst into the euphoria of connection, giving all of myself to someone else, and then when it’s all over, wrestling with the question: was that really love, or just something like it?”
love?…or something like it includes collaborations with her sister Chlöe, as well as GloRilla, Mariah The Scientist and H.E.R. Behind the boards, the production is handled by Bongobytheway, Needlz, D Phelps and Dem Jointz, among others. The album also features previously released songs including “angel,” “because i love you,” “braveface,” and “in your hands.”
In a short film shared last month, Halle narrated a dreamy album trailer that set the tone for the project. “Once upon a time, there was a young girl that believed in love,” she says. “She believed everyone belonged to someone… So all she ever wanted in life was to find the truest form of love. Was it ever possible? And here’s what happened.”
She also shared on X: “‘love? or something like it’ — my debut album. a story of first love, heartbreak, and everything that comes after. out 10/24. this one means everything to me.”
