Starting your journey with Taxumo is simple, and it helps you stay compliant with your tax obligations without the stress. For me, I see Taxumo as a tool—a very powerful one that’s flexible enough to guide you on what forms you need to file and even help you pay for them. But at the end of the day, it’s still our responsibility as taxpayers to understand how to use tools like these properly. Think of it like driving a car: the car makes the trip easier, but we still need to know the rules of the road.
That’s why setting up your account correctly from the start is so important. If you’re a freelancer, self-employed professional, or small business owner, this quick guide will show you how to set up your Taxumo account so you can file your taxes with confidence.

Step 1: Create Your Account
- Go to Taxumo.com and sign up using your email, Google, or Facebook account.
- Fill in your basic details, like your full name, TIN, and registered address.
👉 Tip: Make sure your information matches what’s on your BIR Certificate of Registration (COR) or form 2303. If you don’t have a COR yet, feel free to avail of our partners’ services here: https://marketplace.taxumo.com/
Step 2: Set Up Your Business Profile
This part ensures Taxumo knows exactly what forms you need to file. You’ll input details such as:
- Your business name
- Business type (selling goods, providing services, or both)
- Income source (employment, business, profession, or mixed)
- Income tax rate (8% or graduated)
- and other details that you might need
Step 3: Choosing Your Tax Rate
Here are things to note about choosing your tax rate:
- The 8% tax rate was introduced by the BIR for individuals earning less than ₱3M per year (non-VAT entities).
- Everyone chooses their tax rate at the start of each year. This is why Taxumo allows you to set your business profile for each year.
- Even if you are 8% in your COR, individual tax filers can opt to use the Graduated income tax rate if they wish.
- BUT, if you are filing mid-year and already missed earlier filings, you MUST choose the graduated income tax rate instead of 8%— (again) even if 8% was what you originally registered for.
- If you’ve chosen the Graduated Income Tax Rate, aside from your income tax, you also need to file your percentage tax form regularly. This is something many forget, but it’s an important compliance requirement.
Step 4: For BMBE Certificate Holders
If you are registered as a Barangay Micro Business Enterprise (BMBE), take note:
- You are required to file your Quarterly Percentage Tax forms.
- You also need to file your Annual Income Tax form.
- But here’s the good news: you don’t need to file the Quarterly Income Tax forms (Q1–Q3) anymore.
Final Thoughts
Setting up your Taxumo account properly ensures you’re filing the right forms and following BIR rules. Whether you’re on the 8% option, the graduated rate, or have a BMBE certificate, Taxumo makes filing so much easier.
But remember—Taxumo is a tool. It’s here to simplify the process, but the responsibility to know what to file and when still rests on us as taxpayers. By learning how to use it correctly, we not only stay compliant but also gain peace of mind knowing that we’re taking charge of our financial responsibilities.
