This Is My Story – adaughtersgiftoflove

This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior…..all the day long. I suppose that since I was a child I sang and danced. The Lord probably watched as did my routine on the sidewalk, struggled with piano lessons and eventually wrote so many songs and poems.

I sang in a sign language choir once, and my mother cringed when a boy held a lit candle behind my head at one small church. The saw me sing at church, a solo, following an older lady, that was How Great Thou Art. He saw me when I was good, off key, rejected. I had a friend who was a great sing.

I sang with kindergarteners as a teen, and with a lot of children at daycare and in years to come. It brought some out of their shells, everyone was applauded and no one excluded but not forced to perform, it took a little coaxing.  One girl went from terrified, to playing tennis and chess and even being in a parade.

That’s what singing can do for you. Whether you are good or not so great, professional or amateur, play an instrument or or not, God is writing your story and your song. He inhabits the praise of His people. He loves for us to make a joyful noise.

I have known a few singers who were really good and appeared to not reach their possibilities, others may have been more withdrawn or too competitive. I wasn’t singing with a nurse when I was at the hospital, I said I would sing when I got home. This is my story, this is my song. I do praise my Savior all the day long.

I sing contemporary, I sing hymns. I sing lots or songs, children’s or oldies, whatever pops into my head but not these newer lyrics. If you are wondering why I set off on this course during the season of Thanksgiving, it’s because I saw a movie in which the character sang Blessed Assurance the whole movie. And yes, I am old enough to have seen a few Billy Graham crusade, and recall George Beverly Shea.

We all need that Blessed Assurance, in this day and age. Have we gotten away from a purer praise? A heartfelt and Amazing Grace? Have we walked away from traditional worship? I do believe some music is inspired by God, I like the idea of revival and a message of love, but I have concerns that many may see it as too much of a concert. They may enjoy the music and miss the message. I see a lot of people going to church, and still living just the same.

I am moved by words, I believe God is also and those words are often His own. There is beauty in Him and He rejoices over us with singing but He quiets us with His love when are hearts are still, Zephaniah 3:17. I may not have always been singing in church, with a crowd or on a stage but I never stopped singing, and that is my story and my song. I have so much to be thankful for. And I praise Him for it. He has orchestrated a divine plan asking us to follow Him.

Here are the words to Blessed Assurance, sing it sometime. And also a few verses to journal or memorize. And I want Jesus to be our story and our song. No matter how you sound, keep singing, I might have had days when I couldn’t but my heart never did, and my voice still echoes the praise to my Savior all the day long.

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

Refrain Chorus

This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long.
This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long.

Perfect communion, perfect delight,
visions of rapture now burst on my sight.
Angels descending bring from above
echoes of mercy, whispers of love. ( Refrain )

Perfect submission, all is at rest.
I in my Savior am happy and blessed,
watching and waiting, looking above,
filled with His goodness, lost in His love. ( Refrain )

Fanny Crosby 1873 She wrote many songs poems and hymns, under many pseudonyms and was a teacher although blind from the age of six weeks.
