Proton Experimental gets fixes for Sword of the Stars II, Plan B: Terraform, Terminator: Dark Fate – Defiance and more


Another fresh upgrade for Proton Experimental to bring further Windows game compatibility enhancements to SteamOS / Linux. This update was released on October 2nd.

What exactly is Proton Experimental? A brief reminder for you – Proton Experimental is a compatibility layer to run Windows games on Linux systems like Steam Machine, Steam Deck and Desktop Linux. This one is their testing ground for future stable numbered versions of Proton, the most recent being Proton 11.0-2.

In case you missed it Valve also recently enabled the FEX code cache in Proton Experimental (ARM) to improve frame timings and there was another Proton Experimental update late last month with more general game fixes.

Key Changes

  • Fixed a rendering issue in Sword of the Stars II: Enhanced Edition.
  • Fixed a memory leak in Plan B: Terraform.
  • Fixed a crash in Terminator: Dark Fate – Defiance.
  • Fixed camera rotation stutter regression in experimental branch with STEEL GULLET Demo.
  • Fixed Blue Effect VR not starting on some CPUs.
  • Fixed Proton 11 regressions:

    • LARA CROFT AND THE TEMPLE OF OSIRIS no longer has controller stutter.
    • Locoland is playing videos properly again.
