Hayden Christensen has expressed a desire to make more live-action Star Wars with fellow prequel stars Natalie Portman and Ewan McGregor, possibly set during the Clone Wars.
The three actors played the central trio of Anakin Skywalker, Padme Amidala and Obi-Wan Kenobi in the prequel films, with Christensen and McGregor since returning to the franchise in TV show Obi-Wan Kenobi, as well as series Ahsoka for the former.
Christensen will once again be back in the upcoming second season of Ahsoka, and was asked what he can tease during an interview on the Hey Jonas podcast.
“What I’ve had a lot of fun with is getting to play the character during the Clone Wars timeline, which they did in the animated world,” he said. “And that’s a lot of fun just because it’s a different side of the character.”
When Kevin Jonas asked whether fans could ever see a “straight up Anakin show”, Christensen then teased the possibility of it happening.
“I know that Ewan McGregor would love to do more with it. I’ve heard Natalie [Portman] would love to come back. Sam Jackson,” he said. “So you could get the band back together.”
The original Clone Wars animated series aired between 2008 and 2020, and is set during the integral conflict around the time of the prequels. However, it features different voice actors for most of the central characters.
Ahsoka, which focuses on Anakin’s titular padawan (played by Rosario Dawson) in the early days of the New Republic, debuted in 2023, NME saying in a three-star review that it “has more than enough of its own charm and electricity to be something greater than filler”.
Meanwhile, in 2024 Christensen admitted he thought that had no shot of landing the role of Anakin when he heard that creator George Lucas was talking to Leonardo DiCaprio about potentially taking the part.
“I had heard that they’d met with Leonardo and a bunch of other actors,” he recalled to Empire. “That just confirmed my thought that the role would go to another actor.
“Through the entire auditioning process I had told myself, from day one, that I wasn’t going to get the part. It just wasn’t a possibility. And I think that probably helped me a lot, because it just freed me up in a lot of ways. And so it really came as a surprise to me when I got the part.”
