The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested Moferewa Maiye, a strong APC supporter, after discovering he was impersonating a DSS officer.
TheNewsGuru reports that the secret police tracked and arrested Maiye, who said he is from Agbajojun Village in Mopamuro Local Government Area of Kogi State at his hideout near NITEL Junction on Adetokunbo Ademola Way, Wuse II, Abuja.
At the point of arrest, Maiye was wearing a DSS tactical uniform and carrying a fake pistol.
A security source said the Secret police acted on reliable information that Maiye used the uniform and fake weapon to intimidate commuters and drivers, and to extort money from them.
According to the source, during questioning, the suspect said his brother had worked for the DSS but died several years ago.
He named his brother as Monday Maiye and said the DSS kit he had belonged to his late brother.
The The source said the suspect is still being questioned, and the Service is looking into how he got the DSS uniform and kit.“Investigators are also trying to establish how long the suspect has been involved in similar acts of impersonation and extortion.
“The arrest underscores growing concerns by the Service over the activities of individuals who impersonate security personnel to intimidate members of the public and commit criminality,” the source declared.
