Imphal, June 15: Manipur police on Saturday seized over 57 kg of methamphetamine tablets—commonly known as Yaba or party tablets—valued at more than ₹22 crore in the international narcotics market.
The consignment was discovered during a routine check, and a subsequent sample test confirmed the tablets as methamphetamine. The truck driver, identified as 34-year-old Nawaj Sharif from Thoubal district, was arrested on the spot.
“We have arrested the truck driver and seized 57.285 kg of methamphetamine tablets worth ₹22 crore from the truck,” a police official confirmed.
This operation follows a major joint raid last week involving the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Customs, Assam Rifles, and Manipur Police. In that operation, authorities confiscated 7,755.75 grams of heroin worth ₹54.29 crore and 6,736 grams of opium valued at ₹87.57 lakh, along with ₹35.63 lakh in cash.
Two walkie-talkies, a vehicle, and five suspects were also taken into custody under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
