Mourning for a Scots baritone

A celebration of the life of the distinguished baritone and RNCM teacher Henry Herford took place on 20th August at Northmoor in Oxfordshire.

Henry, who was 79, had suffered from Parkinson’s disease.

Born in Edinburgh, he read Classics and English at Cambridge, and studied singing at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. He joined the Glyndebourne Opera Chorus for two years, going on to sing leading roles at Covent Garden, Glyndebourne and Scottish Opera. He appeared twice as soloist at the Last Night of the Proms.
