Travel to Bali Updates (2026 Edition)

Planning a Bali family holiday? Entry requirements for Bali have changed once again and being prepared before you fly will save you time, stress and long airport queues, especially when travelling with kids.

This guide covers the latest Bali travel updates, including visas, the All Indonesia Arrival Card, tourist levy and the Bali airport autogate system, so you know exactly what to expect when arriving in Bali.

Bali Entry Requirements at a Glance

Before you fly, make sure you have:

• A passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date
• The All Indonesian Arrival Card completed online (replaces older customs & health forms plus there is an App available)
• A Visa on Arrival VoA or Electronic Visa on Arrival e-VOA (now also located on the All Indonesia Arrival Website and App 3 days prior to travel)
• Bali’s Tourist Tax Levy
• An onward flight ticket from Bali
• Travel insurance (strongly recommended)
• Download WhatsApp (optional)
• Consider an eSIM for internet data connection

All Indonesia Arrival Card

Indonesia (including Bali) has introduced a single digital arrival form for all international visitors.

The All Indonesia Arrival Card replaces:

• Customs declaration
• The old immigration arrival card
• Health pass form

What you need to know:

• Complete online before arrival (recommended)
• Can be submitted only 3 days before your flight
• You will receive a QR code to present on arrival at Customs
• You can submit one application for your entire family travelling with you by selecting Add Traveller
• After you have completed the form, you can choose to pay for your eVOA. Read the Visa section of this post for details on how to complete. It is super easy and highly recommended!

What do you need to complete the Card:

• Passports of all people travelling including babies
• Flight details including flight number to Bali and dates of arrival and departure
• Name and address of accommodation you are staying (only one accomodation)
• Details of items you need to declare on the customs form including quanity and value

Top tip for families: Complete this at home. Bali Airport Wifi can be slow, and having kids waiting while forms load is not fun! If you forget, you can complete it before proceeding through Immigration. Also, take a screenshot of the QR code on your phone so it’s easy to find.

Here’s how it works (for travelling families):

Go to the All Indonesia website or the App on Apple Store or Google Play and select Foreign Visitor

Step 1 PERSONAL INFORMATION

• Scan your passport (the first passport scanned will become the lead traveller)
• Double-check all the details are correct
• Enter phone number (take off 0 from mobile number) and email address
• Click add traveller if travelling in a group
• Complete process for additional travellers as above (use same email address if your family)
• Press submit when everyone added

Step 2 TRAVEL DETAILS

• Click on the group leader to add travel details
• Add the arrival date in Indonesia and the departure date
• Answer Visa question: If you haven’t purchased a Visa, select NO. It will indicate that you can buy 30 day eVOA after completing the arrival card
• If you have already purchased a Visa through the official site, select YES and enter Visa number when prompted
• Select the other member of your group. It will transfer arrival/departure dates from Group Leader but will ask if person already has a Visa

Step 3 MODE OF TRANSPORT & ADDRESS

• Most common for families will be Air>Holiday/Sightseeing/Leisure
• Place of arrival is DPS – I GUSTI NGURAH RAI AIRPORT if you are flying into Bali
• Then select Commercial Fight and the airline with your flight number
• Address in Indonesia. Input details for the first Hotel you are staying (you can select other for staying in a villa)
• Search for your accommodation. If it is not listed, select others then manually input the name
• For Hotel City use
• Kuta, Legian, Seminyak, Canggu, Uluwatu, Nusa Dua or Tanjung Benoa select KAB BADUNG
• Sanur select KOTA DENPASAR
• Ubud select KAB GIANYAR

Step 4 CUSTOMS DECLARATION

• Click on each traveller and complete health questions and Quarantine Declaration
• Complete the customs questions (for your whole group)
• Unsure about declaring medications? Check out this page
• Include the number of hand luggage and checked luggage pieces for the whole travelling group listed on Arrival Card
• Press send once you have completed all forms correctly
• Click the Lead Traveller to reveal the QR code, then take a screenshot of it on your phone. You can also click download to save it to your photos

You can then click on the Apply for Visa On Arrival (VOA) to purchase Visa

Tourist Visas for Bali

Australians and many other nationalities can enter Bali as tourists using a Visa on Arrival.

Check this link for your country’s requirements

B1 VOA details:

• 30-day validity
• e-VOA (recommended) Apply online before you travel
• VoA on arrival Still available at Bali Airport
• Cost per visa IDR524,500 online (approx. $41 AUD) or IDR500,000 at Bail Airport
• All travellers, including infants, pay the same price
• Please note: Visa will list that You are eligible to use Indonesia Autogate at Arrival and Departure Immigration Checkpoint (aged 14 and above with electronic passport) The age has been changed to aged 6 and above
• Want to stay longer? You can extend an additional 30 days. If you have completed the eVOA you can extend it online at the official site, but if you purchased a 30-day VOA at Bali Airport, you must visit the immigration office

Let’s choose the best option for your family to complete your Bali Tourist Visa.

1. Fast Track Your Bali Visa: Apply Through the All Indonesia App

Want to get your Bali visa sorted quickly and stress-free? The All Indonesia App is the fastest way and most families will need the B1 Visa on Arrival (VOA) for their Bali family holidays under 30 days. With this method, you can buy the Visa right after your arrival declaration on the All Indonesia App or Website, as detailed above.

Just remember: this only works 72 hours before your flight, so plan accordingly!

How it works through the All Indonesia App

• Once you have filled in the Arrival Card Submission, proceed to the next steps
• Click the Apply for B1 Visa on Arrival link and pay
• You can use Visa or Mastercard to pay. We have used both Wise Card and ING Visa debit card to pay
• The visa will be sent to your email address
• Don’t worry if the Download link in the email doesn’t work; there will be a PDF of the Visa at the end of the email
• Take a screenshot of the B1 visa on your phone. If you used autogates, it will be linked to your passport
• Double-check all details in Visa, don’t miss this step!
• If the Visa is incorrect, contact the Immigration team through the chat function of the official website

Pre-paying online means you can skip the visa line when you land. This is a bonus even for families with younger kids who can’t use the autogates. If your family has e-passports, everyone is aged 6 years and above, you can head straight to the autogates. This means less waiting and you can start your Bali holiday!

Side note: 16th June 2026 the cost of purchasing a VOA on a Wise Card was 524,500IDR or $39.36AUD (this was debited from IDR already exchanged). On a VISA Credit Card in AUD, it was $42AUD.

2. Sort It Before You Fly: Apply for Your Visa Early

If your family prefers to have everything organised well before you leave, you can apply for your visa more than 72 hours in advance via Indonesia’s official Immigration site. You will need a few documents: a PDF copy of your passport, PDF copy of your flight details and a passport-style photo taken with your phone.

The quick link I have previously used, web/application_bvk, no longer works and takes you to the All Indonesia site.

Step-by-step:

• Go to the official site: https://evisa.imigrasi.go.id
• Select your passport country (for example Australia)
• Main purpose of visit: select General, Family or Social
• Sub purpose: select Tourism, Family, or Social
• Choose a visa: select B1 Tourist (Visa on Arrival)
• Planning to stay: select 30 days
• Follow the prompts to submit your documents and pay

This method means your VOA is approved before you even leave home and it’s handy if you want to complete the Visa more than 3 days before your trip.

3. Grab It When You Land: Visa on Arrival

Some families prefer the flexibility of getting their visa at the airport. You can pay by cash or card at the arrivals desk before heading to immigration. They accept a range of currencies, including AUD, and given change in IDR.

The only catch? There can be lines at the visa desk and without pre-payment, you’ll need to queue at the manual immigration counters instead of using the auto gates. Slightly cheaper at 500,000IDR if you use cash.

Pre-paying online avoids this, letting your family zoom straight through with minimal waiting, perfect when you’ve got kids excited to start exploring Bali!

Bali Tourist Tax Levy

Bali encourages all tourists to pay a Tourist Tax Levy.

• Cost: IDR 150,000 per person (approx. $13 AUD)
• Applies to adults and children
• Supports environmental and cultural initiatives in Bali

How to pay:

• Online before arrival (recommended)
• On arrival at Bali Airport (there is a counter just before the waiting Bali drivers)
• You can choose to pay individually or as a family group (just add more tourist)

Save your receipt or QR code in case you are checked on arrival (we have never been checked).

Extra Bali Travel Tips for Families

Check your passport expiry
Your passport must be valid for six months beyond your intended arrival date. This is a strict requirement; you won’t be able to board the plane if it isn’t valid. Also, check your passport pages for tears or damage, as Bali immigration can be stringent. Allow time to apply for a new passport.

Organise travel insurance
Travel insurance is essential. We personally use CoverMore for our overseas holidays, but whichever provider you choose, make sure it covers medical emergencies and cancellations.

Arriving in Bali

After landing in Bali, exit the plane and follow the signs to the immigration hall. What you do next depends on whether you have pre-organised an e-VOA or not.

Do NOT Have e-VOA

If you haven’t arranged your visa in advance:

• Join the Visa on Arrival (VOA) payment queue
• Pay for your visa before proceeding to immigration

Visa On Arrival fee:

• Same as the eVOA
• IDR 500,000 per person (approx. $43 AUD)
• Applies to all passengers, including infants

Payment options:

• Visa or Mastercard
• Debit card
• Cash in IDR or foreign currency

From experience, AUD cash works well. Card facilities can occasionally be unavailable, so having cash as a backup is a smart move.

Once payment is complete, continue through to the immigration lines.

If You Have eVOA

Ngurah Rai International Airport (Denpasar) now uses automated autogates, making arrivals and departures much quicker for eligible travellers. The autogates can be used by most passengers, including children aged six and over, if you complete the electronic VOA prior to travel and you have a biometric (e-chip) passport.

How the autogates work:

• Scan your passport at the gate
• The system will automatically take your photo
• Your Visa and passport will be checked
• Once approved, the gate opens and you walk straight through

It’s quick, easy and significantly reduces time spent in immigration queues after a long flight.

Travelling With Younger Kids or Additional Needs?

Families who are not eligible for the autogates can use the designated immigration assistance line, which is usually located to the right of the autogates. This can move, however, so check out the signs.

This line can be used by:

• Families with children under 6
• Pregnant women
• Visitors over 60 years old
• Individuals with a disability or additional needs

Important: If anyone in your family group falls into one of these categories, the entire family can use this line together.

On one of our trips, we used this line for Mason due to his disability, even though it wasn’t visible, and he wasn’t wearing a sunflower lanyard. The process was smooth and the staff were understanding, which made our family’s arrival far less stressful.

Collecting Luggage

After clearing immigration, walk past the duty-free shop to reach the luggage carousels. Porters are available if you’d like assistance with your bags.

At customs, present the QR code from your completed All Indonesia Arrival Card, which you completed before your flight.

Once you have finished all the checks, you will pass money changers, ATMs, SIM card stalls, a mini-mart and Starbucks before arriving at the crowd of waiting drivers.

Organise data for your phone

Bali remains one of the easiest and most family-friendly international destinations, but the key to a smooth arrival is being organised before you leave home. With your family’s visas sorted, forms completed, and QR codes ready, you will be out of the airport and into holiday mode faster.
