My Thoughts:
Soriah has already been through a lot and is coping, just. That is until the man who she lives in fear of is about to be released from prison. What she went through is horrific, some readers may find it triggering, and it certainly added to the darkness of the story.
The chapters flick from past to present so we get to know more of what happened in the past as well as the strange events that are occurring in present day. I had every empathy for Soriah at what she has been, as well as what she is currently going through. It’s as if the nightmare never ends. She keeps everyone at a distance and even her marriage seems to be struggling.
It is a dark and disturbing read that covers topics of rape, coercion as well as secrets and lies. There were also plenty of shocking moments with more than a few characters that I would have loved to have given a good slap to myself. I do like though that Soriah, whilst a victim, shows great strength and courage and has a determination to lot events define her.
The Quiet Wife sucked me straight in and wouldn’t let go of me. It’s steeped in suspense and you never knew what was going to happen next. I did work out one aspect of it early on but it didn’t spoil my enjoyment in anyway as you can still feel the sense of danger and trepidation at what was still to come. I can’t believe this is my first book by the author of which I will certainly be reading more. A tense and chilling read!
