So there is a common theme and understanding between Melody and myself. At any given moment…if I ask her what kind of food sounds good, she will always respond Mexican! Chips and salsa is its own food group anyways, right? While on assignment in Dallas we happened across a place that fit the bill for some authentic Mexican food…Hugos Invitados!
We were very politely accommodated with booth seating as we alway request. The service and staff were very forthcoming and the atmosphere teeming with life. Our server provided us with the special of the day, a pozole rojo with pork. I was sold immediately just hearing the ingredients! We placed an order for the pozole and a couple of glasses of their house made sangria! Hugos prides themselves by providing natural foods, scratch made tortillas, fresh baked chips, grass fed free range, and organic food.
I am happy to report that the pozole here is top notch. Comes close to what I remember growing up when my abuela would make some. For the main course we decided to order smoked brisket tacos and an enchilada. The sangria fresca was definitely refreshing, with fresh fruit, red wine, brandy and agave mixed with purple corn punch.
The brisket tacos were amazing! House smoked bacon in a homemade tortilla, topped off with tomatillo, baby kale relish, and avocado habanero sauce! Every bite offered that smokey brisket flavor, dancing with the sweet spicy relish and habanero. Of course we could not pass up on desert. To finish this meal off we opted for a tres leches cake. Check out our pictures below and if you’re ever around, stop by Hugos Invitados for some delicious food and a dinner to remember!
