DBB. What it’s good for, and what’s it’s not good for

I’ve had a recent surge in traffic on the site so I thought it might be a good idea to summarize what you’ll find at dingsbeerblog, and perhaps just as importantly, what you won’t.

To find out more about me, take a look here. Who I am may not be important to you per se, but a little background does give the site’s content some important context.

Here’s the most basic breakdown of the kind of thing you’ll find here, and what you won’t.

Let’s start with the things that you will find. The content largely breaks down into two main areas.

1. Notes on beers that fall into the following categories. (These notes probably make up the most useful part of the site for casual visitors).

  • Belgian. Most of the Belgian beers that were available in the US circa. 2004 to circa, 2015, plus many that were never available here, but that I had shipped from Europe.
  • British. Most of the British beers that have ever been available in the US since 2004.
  • German. Many of the German beers that have ever been available in the US since 2004.
  • American. A very wide range of American beers from the period 2004-present, with an emphasis on the period 2005-15, but also contemporary beers from the older, classic US breweries that are still producing. There are some exceptions (see below).
  • Other imports. Many, many other imported beers that have been available in the USA in the period 2004-15.

A quick note about the pictures associated with beers on the site. If a beer has a review that is originally dated 2004-10 it will often not have a picture associated with it. If a beer from that period it does have a picture, it will probably be because it has been re-visited sometime after the original notes. Most of the beers reviewed after 2010 do have pictures, but not all.

2. Commentary on the US beer scene, both nationally and locally, from an Englishman’s standpoint.

  • That’s about it. No more, no less.

Now on to what you won’t find here.

  • Notes on pastry stouts, fake sours (kettle), hazed orange juice or indeed much canned beer (although that particular pet peeve of mine is under increasing pressure).
  • You also won’t find commentary that sucks up to the industry or sugarcoats anything.
  • No video clips of me opining. I’m old, so I like words, not 45 seconds from a ‘content creator’ staring into an iphone.

So if you’re new here, that’s what you can expect. Thanks for stopping by.

We will be happy to hear your thoughts
