I’m dealing with some exhaustion today after a pretty perfect weekend, which included seeing a Mary Oliver documentary at the Frameline pride film festival in Berkeley with my friends, getting an Oakland library card in my her new neighborhood, and having rooftop sangria at their new apartment. I got up early for an epic 10 mile/4 hour solo hike around Lake Chabot in Castro Valley. Finished by lunch (scarfed a massive lakeside marina cheeseburger) rinsed off, swapped clothes and hopped on Bart to the S.F. Mission district for a lap around packed Dolores park, and meze with my friend at a Mediterranean restaurant with a view of the parade and a few other wanderings. My phone logged 33,000 steps that day, and riding home reading my kindle in the glitter and energy packed train cars was really something.
Back in motown on Sunday we celebrated our friend’s engagement with a killer brunch. They made tingly spicy sichuan fried chicken, I made fig leaf ice cream which landed meltingly on top of a perfect peach pie, Prosecco was flowing and I went to heaven (and then went home and took a 3 hour nap with my girlfriend and my cat). Good friends, amazing food, public transport, books, poetry, cinema, nature, a lot of walking and a lot of laughs. I can’t think of anything more life affirming for me in particular. Happy to be here in the kaleidoscope of wonder.Let me know what you’re thinking about by replying to this email anytime, or chatting with me on any given Thursday.
