Chili Seasoning

One of my favorite things to do on a Sunday at home is meal prep for the week. I love cooking, but I also love making things that will make my life easier. Seasoning mixes save me time in the long run. If I use a mix, I only have to open one jar, verses six plus. It’s all together in one container and placed where I can easily reach it while putting together meals.

I already shared my taco seasoning mix and now want to show you my chili seasoning.

These seasoning mixes are proving to be more expensive each time I make them. This does not make me happy, and I am sure you are feeling the pinch as well. I’m going to figure out how to bring those costs down. I will share what I am doing right now soon.

One of the reasons I spend so much on my seasonings is that I buy organic, which generally costs more. You can choose not to go organic and save money that way. I prefer the taste of organic over other seasonings, and plan to keep buying organic. I will find a way to make it work for me. If you know a good source of bulk seasonings, please share! I am on the lookout.

Because I am a picky eater, this chili seasoning mix may look different than many other people’s recipes. I have been tweaking it for years now, and I think I have come upon the perfect ratios for my needs.

Chili Seasoning

Servings: About 6, 2.5 tbsp servings

Ingredients

6 tbsp chili powder

6 tsp cumin

1.5 tsp sea salt

1.5 tsp black pepper

2.25 tsp onion powder

2.25 tsp garlic powder

3 tbsp parsley

3 tbsp oregano

3 tbsp chives

  1. Measure all the seasonings into a jar.
  2. Shake to mix.
  3. Label and put on a shelf.
  4. When making tacos, use 2.5 tbsp for your ground beef.

Notes

  • Grown the herbs on a windowsill to save money on the herbs.
  • Walmart usually has organic potted herbs in the produce section for just under $3.00 in my area this time of year. You could buy these affordably, let them grow more, harvest and hang to dry. This would save you a little money over time.

This is super easy! It doesn’t take long to put this mix together and is easy to grab and use when needed.
