I’ve never been a fan of regular frozen yogurt but I do love full-fat Greek yogurt. I know it sounds crazy, but this disconnect inspired me to create a homemade version of frozen yogurt that tastes great but is sugar-free! It’s transformed me into a frozen yogurt fan!

During the summer months, I keep it handy for a cold treat on a hot day. It’s so refreshing and delicious! If you love it, you’ve got to try my strawberry and banana ice cream next!

  • Better than the yogurt shop! Most frozen yogurt places try to make their treat seem “healthier” so they offer you no-fat, low-fat and 2% FROYO. And then it gets loaded up with sugar to make up for the lack of fat. Sure, sugar tastes good, but the combo in the right balance is much much better.
  • Easy to make. It requires only two simple ingredients found at almost every grocery store and the only equipment you need is a blender.

All you need are TWO simple ingredients to make mango sugar-free frozen yogurt at home!

  • Mango: Use frozen mangoes to achieve the proper frozen consistency. Buying frozen mango makes this super easy but if you prefer fresh you will need to cut it up and freeze it in advance.
  • Greek yogurt: For the best flavor make sure to use full-fat plain Greek yogurt. (I have made this with 2% frozen yogurt, which is also good, just not quite as good.)

Variations and Dietary Modifications

  • Swap for other fruits: Pineapple, blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries are just a few fruit flavors that will work well in this frozen yogurt recipe!
  • Dairy-free: I haven’t tested this with dairy-free yogurt. It should work well as long as you use a thick and creamy yogurt that contains some natural fats such as almond yogurt or coconut yogurt.

How to Make Mango Frozen Yogurt

Here’s a look at how to make mango sugar-free frozen yogurt at home. You can enjoy it immediately after blending it, or freeze it for a firmer consistency. The choice is yours!

Step 1: Get ready to blend. Add the frozen mango and Greek yogurt to the blender.

Step 2: Blend. Blend until it’s smooth and creamy. You may need to blend in short bursts to get things moving at first. Once it’s blended you can enjoy it immediately or freeze it for a firmer consistency.

PRO TIP: Partially thaw the mango in the microwave for 30-60 seconds if you don’t have a super high-powered blender. This will make it easier to blend. You will end up with a loose frozen yogurt consistency, which is ready to eat or freeze.

Step 3: For freezing. Scrape the mixture into a quart-sized freezer bag and seal. Place the bag in the freezer.

Step 4: Getting the right consistency. After an hour, remove the bag from the freezer and mash it gently with your hands, breaking up any ice chunks that have formed. Return the bag to the freezer for 30 minutes, and repeat until the frozen yogurt reaches the desired consistency.

Expert Tips

  • Use the bag method for freezing. This method works great to ensure a smooth and creamy consistency for your sugar-free frozen yogurt.
  • Storage tip: Store it in the freezer in a plastic bag for up to one month. When frozen for long periods of time (or even for overnight) the sugar-free frozen yogurt becomes very hard. Let it thaw on the counter for 15-30 minutes or until it’s soft enough you can squash it with your hands to work out any large chunks.
  • Don’t skip the mango. Mango has a naturally creamy consistency when frozen and work perfectly to make frozen yogurt so I don’t recommend swapping them completely for other fruits.
  • Serving Ideas. While I think this mango frozen yogurt is great on its own feel free to add some toppings. This high-protein granola, nuts, dark chocolate, or coconut make some healthier options.

  • Blend together all ingredients. You can nuke the mangoes for 30-60 seconds in the microwave to partially thaw them. It will have a loose frozen yogurt consistency, which is ready to eat if you’d like, but for a firmer consistency, follow the freezing instructions below.

  • To Freeze (Best results): Scrape mixture into a quart-sized freezer bag and seal. Place bag in a metal bowl in the freezer.

  • After 1 hour, remove bag from freezer and mash gently with your hands , breaking up any ice chunks that have formed. Return to freezer for 30 minutes, and repeat until the desired consistency is reached!

  • Notes: If you leave it overnight in the freezer, it will become rock-hard. Let it thaw a bit on the counter for 15-30 minutes, or at least until you can squash it around with your hands. (This is why I like the bag method!)
