For some reason, BurgerFi popped into my head this morning. I knew they had filed for bankruptcy but hadn’t paid much attention to the outcome. After some digging, I found out that in October 2024, they were sold to one company and then, in December 2024, were purchased by a brand I had never heard of before—Savvy Sliders.
Curious, I checked out their website and assumed there was no way they had a location near me. But to my surprise, one was just about an hour away in Tamarac.
Our Visit to Savvy Sliders
It was a Sunday morning, so I waited for Marcela to wake up and told her, “Get in the shower, get dressed, put on your shoes. We’ll be back in a few hours.” She kissed our dogs on the way out and just like that, we were headed to check out Savvy Sliders for the first time.
The Road to Tamarac
There’s always this level of excitement when walking into a new restaurant. From the moment we stepped in, it was clear this was a chain—it didn’t have that mom-and-pop feel, but that’s perfectly fine as long as they delivered the goods. The menu had eight slider options, plus chicken fingers, fries, recently added chicken nuggets and custard ice cream shakes.
The Taste Test

The only logical thing to do was try one of each type of slider, plus the nuggets, fingers, and their banana pudding custard shake. I chose a classic burger slider, chicken, falafel, and steakhouse slider.

Despite being called Savvy Sliders, we both ended up enjoying the chicken more than the actual sliders. The chicken slider was just a chicken finger on bread with some sauce—not bad, but nothing that stood out. Marcela had the falafel slider, which she loved. I took a bite and was neutral on it.

The burger slider was solid, though I preferred it without ketchup, as it muted the overall flavor. I should’ve gone with a simple cheese, mustard, and grilled onions setup.
The steakhouse slider had the texture of a Steak-Umm with white American cheese and mayo, but not necessarily the full flavor I was expecting. I would’ve liked it to have been a little crispier like it appeared on the menu and grilled onion would have definitely added to the mini sandwich.

While eating, I noticed a menu board on the wall featuring items not listed on the official menu. When I asked about them, I was told corporate had removed them, which was a shame because the spicy grilled chicken slider looked interesting.
The Chicken Wins

The chicken fingers were in the same style as Raising Cane’s—hand-breaded fingers, crinkle-cut fries, a piece of toast, and dipping sauce. The fingers and sauce were great, but the Cajun-seasoned fries were unevenly seasoned. I still enjoyed them, though.

The real standout was the nuggets. They were smaller bites of the fingers, about a third of the size, and they were fantastic. If I could do it all over again, I’d order a couple of beef sliders with grilled onions, mustard, cheese, the fingers, regular fries with extra honey mustard dipping sauce, and the banana pudding custard shake.

Speaking of the shake, while I expected a banana custard flavor, Marcela thought it tasted more like a breakfast cereal shake. I’ll have to take her word for it since I’ve never been a big cereal guy.
What’s Next for BurgerFi?
After trying Savvy Sliders, the big question remains—what will happen with BurgerFi? Will they be converted into Savvy Sliders locations, or will the two menus merge somehow? I’m curious to see what happens next. But if they could sell sliders that taste like BurgerFi burgers, I think they’d be onto something big.
