Pitcher Mint Lemonade Mojito (Limonana Mojito)

If there’s one drink that instantly cools you down and feels a little bit special, it’s this Pitcher Mint Lemonade Mojito – also ‘known’ as a Limonana Mojito. It’s bright, citrusy, ultra refreshing, and made for sharing. Think classic lemonade meets fresh mint and a splash of rum, blended into a vibrant base and finished with sparkling bubbles.

Limonana is a popular Middle Eastern drink made with fresh lemon juice and mint, blended into a refreshing cooling lemonade. It’s especially loved in warm climates where cooling drinks are essential. By adding rum and a touch of sparkle, we turn it into a mojito-inspired cocktail that feels both familiar and new.

If this sounds like your drink, of course I’ve got a pitcher recipe for classic mojitos as well!

Why you’ll love this recipe

Mint lemonade mojito is the kind of drink you bring out when the sun is shining, friends are over, and you don’t want to be stuck making individual cocktails all evening. Everything is prepped in one pitcher, and guests can top their own glasses with club soda for that perfect fizzy finish. Easy, impressive, and dangerously drinkable.

It is perfect for summer gatherings, barbecues, or even as a welcome drink at dinner parties. It pairs beautifully with grilled dishes, light salads, and fresh appetizers. Think grilled pork skewers, seafood, or something simple like bruschetta or this burrata with radishes.

Ingredients

To make the perfet mint lemonade mojito you will need:

  • Fresh lemon juice is the backbone of the drink, giving it that sharp, refreshing acidity. Always use freshly squeezed for the best flavor.
  • Sugar balances the tartness of the lemon and helps create that classic lemonade base.
  • Fresh mint brings brightness and a cooling effect that makes the drink incredibly refreshing.
  • Orange blossom water (optional) adds a subtle floral note that elevates the drink without overpowering it. I highly recommend it for that Middle Eastern flare.
  • Water dilutes the strong lemon base and helps control the intensity.
  • White rum adds warmth and depth while keeping the drink light and summery.
  • Club soda provides carbonation and freshness. Adding it per glass keeps the bubbles lively.
  • Crushed ice gives the drink a slightly slushy, extra refreshing texture.
  • Lemon slices and mint are used for garnish and enhance both aroma and presentation.

Ingredients to make mint lemonade mojito.

Instructions

Start by adding lemon juice, sugar, mint, orange blossom water (if using), and ½ cup of the water to a blender or food processor (1). Blend until completely smooth and the sugar is fully dissolved (2). This step creates a vibrant, intensely flavored mint lemonade base.

Strain the mixture into a large pitcher or decanter to remove any fibrous mint pieces (3). This is an important step as it results in a smoother texture and a cleaner finish. I prefer to run it through a cheesecloth, but a fine sieve also works.

Add the remaining water and taste (4) – adjust with a little more water if needed to balance the acidity.

Stir in the white rum and a generous amount of crushed ice. Mix gently until chilled.

To serve, fill glasses with crushed ice and pour over the limonana mojito mixture. Top each glass with club soda right before serving to keep the bubbles fresh and lively. Garnish with lemon slices and fresh mint.

Substitutions

If you don’t have white rum, vodka works as a neutral alternative that still keeps the drink light and refreshing. For a non-alcoholic version, simply omit the alcohol and add a bit more club soda or sparkling water – or do no other alterations than omitting the alcohol!

Granulated sugar can be swapped with simple syrup for easier dissolving, or honey for a slightly deeper flavor. If using honey, blend thoroughly to ensure it incorporates fully. When I use honey in drinks I like to make a honey syrup, like for this lavender bee’s knees. This way it dissolves better into the drink.

Orange blossom water is optional and can be skipped entirely, or replaced with a drop of rose water for a different floral note. Do not overdo it, a little goes a long way.

Club soda can be replaced with any sparkling water like tonic water for a slightly bitter twist, or sparkling lemonade for a sweeter version.

Variations

  • Frozen version: Add more ice and blend everything (including the rum) for a slushy-style cocktail. This is perfect on very hot days.
  • Berry limonana mojito: Add about 1-1 ½ cups of fresh or frozen berries (strawberries or raspberries work really well here) to the blender for a fruity twist. You may need slightly more sugar depending on the tartness.
  • Lime: For a more classic mojito flavor, you can use freshly squeezed lime juice instead of lemon juice.
  • Low alcohol: Reduce the rum and increase the club soda for a lighter, more session-friendly drink.
  • Mocktail version: Skip the rum and add a splash of apple juice or white grape juice for extra body and sweetness – or just omit it entirely.

Equipment

A high-speed blender is key for fully breaking down the mint and dissolving the sugar. If your blender is less powerful, blend a bit longer to ensure a smooth mixture, or use a food processor instead.

A fine mesh strainer helps remove any leftover pulp or mint fibers, giving the drink a cleaner texture. For the ultimate clean drink, use a cheesecloth.

A large pitcher or decanter makes serving easy and keeps everything chilled.

If you don’t have crushed ice, you can pulse ice cubes in a blender or use a rolling pin and a sturdy bag to crush them manually. The latter is what I usually do.

Storage

I generally recommend making it the same day of serving. The limonana base (without rum and club soda) can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to 1-2 days, but it is best the day of.

When pre-making it, the color can turn a little gray and you should stir it well before serving if the mixture separates slightly in the fridge.

Once mixed with rum, it’s best enjoyed the same day for optimal freshness. Always add club soda right before serving to preserve carbonation.

Expert tips

  1. Make sure you use spearmint and NOT peppermint! Peppermint has a too strong menthol flavor, read under Recipe FAQs for more information.
  2. Blend thoroughly: This ensures the mint is fully incorporated and the sugar is dissolved, giving a smooth drink without graininess.
  3. Strain for best texture: Removing mint fibers makes the drink more refined and pleasant to sip, or else it can get a grainy mouthfeel. No thanks.
  4. Add soda per glass: This keeps the drink bubbly instead of flat.
  5. Taste before serving: Lemon acidity varies, so adjusting sweetness or dilution makes a big difference.
  6. Use plenty of ice: This keeps the drink cold and slightly slushy, enhancing the refreshing effect.

Recipe FAQs

Can I make this ahead of time?

In a pinch, yes, the base can be made in advance. Store it chilled, stir well and add rum and soda just before serving.

I would say yes. It gets a grainy mouthfeel without straining. But if you like very pulpy drinks, then sure – don’t do it!

Can I use bottled lemon juice?

Fresh is highly recommended for the best flavor. I never recommend bottled lemon juice, but I’m not going to stop you.

It’s refreshing but balanced. You can easily adjust the mint level to your preference.

A word of caution: You need to use spearmint and not peppermint! Peppermint is spicy and intense due to high menthol levels. Spearmint is sweet, mild, and often used in culinary dishes.

To spot the difference, peppermint has thin, dark green leaves with reddish-purple stems. Spearmint has larger, lighter green, wrinkled, and brighter leaves. Spearmint is what we call ‘green mint’ in Norwegian. You can usually tell by the smell too, peppermint has a strong menthol smell whereas green mint is milder.

This is key to a balanced mint lemonade.

What type of rum works best?

A light white rum keeps the drink clean and fresh, but you can experiment with slightly aged rum for more depth.

Enjoy!
