Another great travel gift for mums or any parent for that matter is membership to Trusted Housesitters so they can travel wherever they like, staying in people’s homes and looking after the houses and pets while they are away.
Trusted Housesitters list hundreds of homeowners who are looking for people to look after their homes and pets. Placements vary from weekend stays to several months, so even if they only use it for short trips it can be a nice way to explore more of their own country or further afield.

Hotel Vouchers
If you’d like to pay for some accommodation for your Mum as a gift experience, a fantastic place to buy hotel vouchers is Tinggly, which has various gift boxes available for different amounts.
The European Escape for example is $150 USD for a one-night stay for two at one of 10,000 hotels in the collection, or if you have a higher budget, the Weekend Getaway for Two is $359 USD for a two-night stay for two people in a double or twin room, or the Relaxing Stay for Couples is another option, priced at $599 USD for two nights for two people.

An Anti-Theft Day Pack
Day packs and hand bags are great for exploring new places, but in places where pickpocketing is common, a gift of an anti-theft backpack with slash-proof material and securable zippers will help keep Mom to keep everything safe.
Pacsafe are a well known and reliable brand, and their 25 litre anti-theft backpack is a great choice, or Travelon is another favourite brand of mine. I also really like this cute ant-theft backpack that looks much nicer than the others!
Money Belt
There are other ways to keep belongings secure, including money belts which fit under clothes, actual belts with hidden compartments to fit cash in, hidden bra pockets and more. Anything that helps Mums to keep their cash safe will be appreciated I’m sure!

Personal Alarm
While we’re talking about thefts, let’s also talk about potential attackers. It is an unfortunate reality that there may be times in every person’s life when they are attacked on the street so help keep your travelling mum safe with a personal alarm.
Whether something happens a block from their own home or on the other side of the world, a personal alarm could deter their attacker and give them enough time to escape. I have recently bought a set of personal alarms like this, and although I haven’t had to use it yet they do give off a very loud noise!

Doorstop Alarm
Particularly useful for solo female travellers who want peace of mind at night, these doorstop alarms fit under most hotel, hostel and Airbnb room doors, and have two functions – to stop the door from being opened from the outside, and to let off a loud alarm should someone try.
I haven’t used one myself, but after reading the reviews I think it’ll be going on my Christmas gift list! You could also go the whole hog and get a set of portable door locks too.
