#7 Ugandan buses and matatus never leave now
If bus drivers, but more often matatu drivers, tell you they will leave now or that they are about to leave, they usually don’t.
Of course, it is best to still stay close to see if they are actually leaving, but don’t fall for the matatu trap.
What is the Matatus trap?
They will tell you they’re leaving right now, but actually the matatu isn’t even half full. And you will end up waiting on the bus for another 30 minutes (if you’re lucky, it could also be 2 hours), while they go around looking for more passengers.
Always check how many people are already in there. If the bus is full they will leave soon, otherwise not. And remember that there is no maximum number of people on a bus. So what is full to you, is probably still empty for them.
If you think you will have a better spot, if you sit in the matatu first, think again. There is no maximum number of passengers. So, in the end, every place will be uncomfortable (check out the next two items to understand why).
