Cricket matches for men’s events for the 2026 Asian Games kicked off on Thursday. Group A’s opening match is underway between Afghanistan and Japan. Having lost the toss, the Afghanistan team scored a mere 129 runs with the loss of six wickets in 20 overs. Mohammad Akram hit 34 runs while Darwish Rasooli hit 29 runs for Afghanistan. On the other hand, Shoma Sugaya Slater and Ibrahim Takahashi performed marvelously for Japan, picking up two wickets each.

Starting the match poorly by losing the toss, the Afghan team decided to bat first. Their first wicket came at 14 and it belonged to Hasan Isaakhil, who was dismissed by Sakurano Thomas for scoring merely 3 runs. The second wicket of the Afghan team came at 52 and the unlucky man was Karim Janat, who was dismissed by Ibrahim Takahashi for scoring 21 runs off 23 balls including two fours.
