Welcome aboard our Autumn Splendors Singles Cruise from New York to Montreal. It was a magical cruise on Regent Seven Sea’s Splendor with a wonderful group of singles. We explored, laughed, made new friends creating everlasting memories together.
What better way to start our adventure than in New York City, where excitement was in the air as everyone arrived and got acquainted. Some went to see a Broadway show- Book of Mormon’s and Buena Vista Social Club; some went to see theStatue of Liberty, others went to Central Park, as we ended our evenings with creative cocktails and flavorful delectable dinners.
Then comes one of my favorite moments on any cruise, the sail away. As we left Manhattan behind, we watched the skyscrapers pass us by, the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, and One World Trade Center. Then an amazing view of the Statue of Liberty and the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge. We officially begin our journey north towards Canada. Let the adventure begin!
After Happy Hour, we enjoyed our first of many gourmet meals on board in the Pacific Rim Restaurant. Our Asian inspired dinner was delicious, accompanied by some fine wines and sake. Then off to the theater for our first of many shows.
We had a delightful day out to sea. We started our day with Eggs Benedict with fresh fruit for most, and got to know each other with Two Truths and Lie. We attended some lectures on board, relishing in a relaxing lunch at Prime 7, which soon became our favorite restaurant on board.
The next day brought us to Saint John, New Brunswick with its historic architecture, Reversing Falls, City Marketplace as well as the Yip Cider factory.
Halifax has its wonderful boardwalk, with so many things going on. We listened to someone play the bagpipes, sailboats cruise by, otters on the pier playing, then off to sample some Cows Ice Cream, before heading along the coast to Peggy’s Cove to see its iconic Lighthouse. A great day was had by all.
We arrived in Sydney in the middle of a wind storm. It was so strong some of us never made it to the end of the pier. But we had a wonderful time on board some visiting the spa for a little sauna and steam and others just relaxing with a good book.
Then we arrived in the french speaking province of Quebec. Gaspe has spectacular scenery, but the Saquenay region with its fjords was the scenic highlight. The sunrise at 6 am going through the fjords was incredible. We also were blessed to see one Minke Whale.
Quebec City was another highlight, with its old town charm and remarkable architecture. Who isn’t impressed with the Chateau Frontenac towering above. In the afternoon many of us hiked out to Saint Anne Falls. Some of the most brilliant falls I have ever seen, of course what’s a day without a little wine tasting at a local vineyard.
Our awesome adventure ended in Montreal, one of Canada’s most vibrant cities, with cobblestone streets, charming cafes, beautiful architecture, boutiques and French influence makes it a wonderful place to end our journey.
We may have come aboard not knowing anyone, but we left new friendships, and memories that will last for long after the trip is over.
