CBI Raids 10 Locations in Hyderabad Over Rs 105 Crore Bank Fraud

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted raids at 10 locations across Hyderabad and Andhra Pradesh on Friday, July 31, in connection with a major banking fraud case involving NCS Sugars Limited. The fraud, which amounts to Rs 105 crore, has been registered following a complaint filed by Punjab National Bank, Chennai. The raids were carried out simultaneously at multiple sites in Hyderabad, Kakinada, and Vizianagaram as part of the ongoing investigation.

The case was registered by the CBI’s Bank Securities and Fraud Branch (BSFB), Bengaluru, against the sugar manufacturing firm, its directors, and certain public servants. The accused individuals have been booked under serious charges including criminal conspiracy, cheating, criminal breach of trust, misappropriation of property, and forgery. The investigation aims to uncover the full extent of the fraudulent activities and bring all those involved to justice.

According to the complaint filed by Punjab National Bank, NCS Sugars Limited allegedly submitted forged documents to the bank to secure credit facilities. The company reportedly obtained the loan under false pretenses and subsequently misappropriated the funds instead of utilizing them for legitimate business purposes. The bank’s complaint highlights that the funds were diverted from their intended use, causing significant financial damage to the lending institution.

The investigation revealed that NCS Sugars defaulted on repaying the loan, leading to a total loss of Rs 105.44 crore to Punjab National Bank. The company’s failure to meet its repayment obligations triggered the bank to approach the CBI for investigation. The fraud case represents a significant breach of trust and has raised concerns about the verification processes for loan disbursements in the banking sector.

The CBI officials are currently examining the seized documents and digital evidence collected during the raids to establish the complete chain of events and identify all individuals involved in the alleged fraud. The investigation is expected to reveal how the forged documents were prepared and submitted, and whether any bank officials were complicit in the sanctioning of the fraudulent loan. The total outstanding amount of Rs 105.44 crore remains a significant loss for the public sector bank.
