Pew Research Center compared the 20 percent of the U.S. population who lived in the country’s most pro-Trump counties with the 20 percent who lived in the most pro-Biden counties. The most pro-Trump counties suffered nearly 70,000 more COVID deaths than the most pro-Biden counties did
In the face of right-wing resistance, the United States fully vaccinated only about 66 percent of the population by the end of April 2022. Had the U.S. achieved full vaccination within the first 16 months that the shots were available—as was materially feasible—the death rate from COVID could have been cut in half, according to some estimates, and more than 300,000 lives could have been saved.
There are plenty of villains in all this, starting with the president, but the fact that he put the country’s most famous anti-vax crank in charge of the nation’s public health agencies was a particular slap in the face to everyone who died during the pandemic.
There’s a new vaccine scheduled for the fall, but if you are over 65 and want a booster (they recommend you get one six months after your vax), you may have had a hard time getting one. They just tell you to wait until the new one comes out. I won’t be at all surprised if this ends up being the last COVID vaccine available, and if Bobby Jr has his way, I suspect it won’t be the only one. They are ready to aim at all of them.
We are living in an antediluvian nightmare — we’re one step away from reading entrails and bloodletting. We’ve already adopted human sacrifice.
