Delta CP reiterates commitment to professional, people-centred policing, charges officers on human rights
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has reiterated the Command’s commitment to professionalism, accountability and people-centred policing, charging officers and men of the Command to uphold the highest standards of conduct in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.
The Commissioner gave the charge on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, during a lecture delivered to officers at the Delta State Police Command Headquarters in Asaba, where he emphasized the need for improved service delivery, discipline and stronger collaboration with members of the public in combating crime across the state.
CP Oyeniyi urged officers to embrace the principles of community policing by building trust with residents and working closely with communities to prevent crime and improve public safety. He noted that effective policing can only be achieved through mutual respect, cooperation and partnership between the police and the people.
The police boss reminded officers that civility, respect for human rights and professionalism in their interactions with members of the public remain fundamental to effective policing. He stressed that every officer must conduct themselves with integrity and fairness while carrying out their lawful duties, adding that respect for citizens’ rights is essential to building public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.
He also tasked senior officers to take deliberate steps in mentoring younger personnel, saying experienced officers have a responsibility to instill discipline, professionalism and ethical values in the next generation of police officers to ensure continuity in quality policing.
The Commissioner further directed all investigating officers to ensure that completed investigations are promptly charged to court in accordance with the law. He warned against the unnecessary detention of suspects, stressing that strict compliance with due process and the Administration of Criminal Justice Act is mandatory.
CP Oyeniyi equally called on officers to remain committed to the vision of the Inspector-General of Police by providing efficient, responsive and people-oriented policing capable of enhancing security and strengthening public confidence in the Force.
He assured residents of Delta State that the Command would continue to prioritize professionalism, respect for the rule of law and the protection of lives and property, while maintaining its resolve to combat crime and ensure a safer environment for all.
