By Deborah Temitope Jacob
It is no doubt that great is the faithfulness of God and that his mercies endure forever despite our imperfections.
Two questions which then remain to be asked are “what does faithfulness mean?” and “who is a faithful servant?”
Faithfulness is the quality of being steadfast and committed to something or someone. It can also mean being reliable and worthy of trust.
In Matthew 25:45, the Bible made mention of a faithful servant as a person who can be trusted with responsibilities.
There are 4 different aspects of faithfulness according to this writer:
Faithfulness to God (Hebrews 11)
Having faith in God is trusting him completely. It is the proof of our relationship with God. We have faith in God because we know he never fails. Faithfulness is total obedience or belief in God’s word and this will requires us to be connected to God and trust in his word completely.
Faithfulness in relationships (Proverbs 28:20)
In our relationship with people either friends or family, we must prove to be trustworthy. What do we say or do behind their backs? Can people trust us with personal issues or see us as perforated mouths?
Faithfulness in duties (Luke 16:10)
A faithful person is proven to be trustworthy with little tasks or positions. As children of God, we must learn to put much effort into little tasks as much as we would great ones. The great men we see today started by being committed to little tasks.
Faithfulness as a fruit of the spirit
By our strengths, faithfulness may be impossible, especially when we don’t get the expected result, but the spirit of God enables us to keep being committed. He also reminds us of the promise of God to those who serve him diligently.
In conclusion, our faithfulness to God, relationships and other duties is not without rewards, because according to Luke 19:17, a faithful servant will be blessed ten times the former.
