As the esteemed wine connoisseur and Australia’s leading bon vivant Len Evans put it, “There is an awful lot of wine in the world, but there is also a lot of awful wine. You have only so many bottles in your life, never drink a bad one.” Per his obituary in 2006 (at age 76) in the Guardian, Evans set new, high standards for Australian hedonism, always demanding that the dinner parties he attended serve the host’s best wine. “What part is wine in your life? Ten per centum. Ergo, 10 per cent of your income should be spent on wine.”
