Friends,
I’m excited to host a live chat here on Substack to discuss the books I selected for my first-ever book club. You can see the titles I chose and learn more about them, discover how the club works, and engage or follow discussions with other members on the MM Book Club Hub for August 2026.
• Common Sense by Thomas Paine
• Sleeping with the Dictionary by Harryette Mullen
• A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole
• Resistance, Rebellion, and Death by Albert Camus
•One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This by Omar El Akkad
The MM Book Club is completely free to everyone. There’s no paywall. If you’re a paid subscriber, you can leave a question in the comments, or as always, you can reach me at [email protected]. If you’re writing with a question for the Q&A, be sure to add “Book Club Q&A” in the subject line. I read every mail sent to me, even though I am unable to respond. Post a question here in the comments and I’ll see it, too.
I genuinely look forward to chatting with all of you about some of my favorite books, both past and present!
MM
** In order to have a troll-free, hate-free comments section, my Comments section here on Substack is limited to paid subscribers. If there’s one thing I know about my crazy haters, they would rather spend five hours listening to Donald Trump boldly (and wrongly) explain how weather balloons work using only a gold Sharpie and a map of an Alabama Costco than give me $5. I have found over the years, this is the most effective way to keep the haters from ruining our conversation.
I believe in open and fair discussion, and want to keep things as open for everyone, but keep the tone as respectful as possible. I do read through the comments, as do my producers.
