Rajasthan Weather: Heavy Rain Alert in 20 Districts, Rivers Rise as Rain Continues Till September 8
The monsoon has made a comeback in the state of Rajasthan. Many districts have witnessed rains through the day on Saturday. A heavy rain warning has been issued today for 20 districts. The water levels of several rivers and streams have increased owing to the incessant rainfall. Several river bunds of Sawai Madhopur, Baran, Bundi, and Kota have been submerged due to the rains. Because of the rains, there has been a fall in temperature by as much as 6 degrees in several districts of eastern Rajasthan. Temperatures have remained below 30 degrees in several districts of eastern Rajasthan which include Jaipur, Alwar, Bharatpur, Dholpur, Karauli, Dausa, and Sawai Madhopur. The rainy season is expected to continue till September 8 according to the Meteorological Department. Thereafter rainfall activity will remain subdued in the state for about a week.
The maximum rainfall of 102 mm in the last 24 hours has been witnessed in Khandar, Sawai Madhopur. Rains of up to 3 inches have fallen in several parts of Karauli, Bharatpur, and Alwar. Rainfall of 1 to 2 inches has been reported from many parts of Ajmer, Baran, Bundi, Dausa, Dholpur, Karauli, Tonk, Sikar, Kota, and Bhilwara.
Following the continuous rainfall, the water level of several dams has risen rapidly. Two gates of the Bandh Baraitha Dam in Bharatpur, two gates of the Parvati Dam in Dholpur, three gates of the Kalisindh Dam in Jhalawar, and seven gates of the Navnera Dam in Kota were opened to release water. Meanwhile, the Ram Sagar Dam in Dholpur and the Mansarovar Dam in Sawai Madhopur overflowed and spilled.
Due to the rain, river levels rose in many areas of Sawai Madhopur, Baran, Bundi, and Kota. Several culverts over the rivers were submerged. Road closures in rural areas caused inconvenience to residents. In Baran, several rivers’ water levels rose. Despite road closures in some rural areas, people were seen risking their lives crossing the river.
