Trump Cannot Let That Happen – Two

This is really an addendum to my blog of two weeks ago titled “Trump Cannot Let That Happen”, “That” being losing Congress and/or Senate in the coming midterms.

With all that is going on, from the tragedies of Iran, Palestine, Ukraine, Nepal, the mystery of the head of the CIA visiting Moscow, the folly of the trade war with Canada, and the stupidity of Trump renaming Lake Ontario, it is easy to lose sight of, or tire of trying to understand, Trump’s executive order to the US Postal Service, and the challenges to this in the courts.

Without doubt, should his order be enacted in full, the Federal Government (Trump) would have control over vetting all mail in votes. This is unlikely to happen.

But 30% of all votes cast are through mail in voting, with higher percentages in blue states and districts. But it has occurred to me that Trump’s attempts to federally oversee and vet all mail in ballots may be but a smokescreen. While the courts weigh in and confusion reigns, all Trump and his minions need in order to subvert this coming election are the ZIP codes, which will be on the ballot envelopes going out and coming in.

With the aid of a good statistician they need but scrap or hide or declare invalid a specific number of votes being cast from specific ZIP codes in order to ensure continued Republican control of Senate and Congress. They don’t need to know the voter or the actual ballot, just the ZIP code on the envelope.

So maybe it will happen that way. Corrupt and wrong but at least not requiring violence.

In every era that the USA has blundered, has ventured into stupid wars, has flirted with tyranny, they have lost a portion of their educated, sane and thoughtful population to Canada. That includes a mentor of mine, a physiology professor and someone who fled the McCarthy era of persecution. And it is happening again.

These will be interesting, difficult and dangerous months ahead. But by luck, or fate, or karma, we do seem, in Canada, to have just the right leadership for the times.
