When people think of CBD, skincare probably isn’t always the first thing that comes to mind.
For us, though, it made perfect sense.
CBD has been at the heart of Source since 2014. We’ve spent more than a decade working with hemp-derived extracts, learning how they behave, how people use them, and why so many people come back to them as part of their everyday wellness routines.
So when we began creating skincare, we weren’t interested in making something that simply looked nice on a bathroom counter. We wanted to build formulas around ingredients we already believed in.
CBD was naturally part of that conversation.
So, what does CBD actually do in skincare?
When CBD is used topically, it interacts with the skin differently than it does when taken internally.
CBD has become especially interesting in skincare because of its soothing and antioxidant properties. It can be a beautiful addition to formulas designed to support skin that feels dry, stressed, sensitive, or simply in need of a little extra care.
That doesn’t mean CBD is some miracle ingredient that does everything on its own.
Good skincare rarely works that way.
A thoughtfully formulated product is about how all of its ingredients work together.
CBD is only one part of the formula
Our Radiance Face Serum combines full-spectrum hemp extract with a blend of botanical oils chosen specifically for the skin.
Pomegranate seed oil is rich and nourishing.
Jojoba closely resembles the skin’s natural oils and helps support moisture without leaving the skin feeling overloaded.
Rosehip seed oil is loved for its naturally occurring fatty acids and antioxidants.
We also chose frankincense, helichrysum, and marigold specifically for the benefits they can bring to the skin. These botanicals are valued for their soothing, antioxidant, and skin-supportive properties, making them a purposeful part of the formula rather than simply an aromatic addition.
Rather than adding CBD to an otherwise ordinary serum just so we could put the word on the label, we built the entire product around ingredients that complement one another.
The result is a concentrated facial oil made to nourish, soften, and support the skin without relying on a long list of unnecessary ingredients.
Source has always worked with full-spectrum hemp extract because we believe in using more of what the hemp plant naturally has to offer rather than isolating one single compound.
Full-spectrum hemp extract contains CBD alongside other naturally occurring plant compounds found in hemp.
It is the same philosophy that has guided Source from the beginning: keep the plant recognizable, keep the formula intentional, and avoid complicating something that doesn’t need to be complicated.
CBD is not the same thing as hemp seed oil
This is an important distinction because the two are often confused.
Hemp seed oil comes from the seeds of the hemp plant. It can be a wonderful carrier oil, but it does not naturally contain meaningful amounts of CBD.
CBD extract comes from other parts of the hemp plant and contains cannabinoids such as cannabidiol.
So when you see CBD in a skincare formula, it is not simply another name for hemp seed oil.
They are completely different ingredients.
Why put CBD on your skin at all?
Your skin is its own living barrier, and topical products allow you to apply ingredients directly where you want them.
That is one of the reasons we love CBD in skincare.
Instead of thinking of CBD as something that belongs only in a tincture or gummy, we look at it as another botanical ingredient that can have a place in a well-rounded topical formula.
And after working with hemp for more than a decade, creating skincare without it almost would have felt stranger to us than including it.
Simple ingredients. Intentional formulas.
There are skincare products with ingredient lists so long you practically need a magnifying glass to read them.
That was never what we wanted to make.
Radiance is intentionally simple.
Pomegranate Seed Oil. Jojoba Seed Oil. Rosehip Seed Oil. Full-Spectrum Hemp Extract. Frankincense. Helichrysum. Marigold.
That’s it.
Every ingredient has a reason for being there.
CBD isn’t included because it is trendy.
It’s included because hemp is where Source began, and after all these years, we still believe there is something pretty incredible about what this plant has to offer.
