If you’ve been hearing rumors that CBD is going away or wondering if you should stock up before November, you’re not alone. We’ve received quite a few emails and phone calls from customers asking the same question.
The short answer is this:
Source CBD isn’t going anywhere.
Here’s what’s actually happening.
What changed?
A federal law that takes effect on November 12, 2026 changes how hemp is legally defined in the United States. Instead of focusing only on Delta-9 THC, the law adopts a much stricter “total THC” standard and significantly changes how many hemp-derived products are classified. (Womble Bond Dickinson)
Why is everyone talking about Delta-8 and Delta-9?
When the 2018 Farm Bill legalized hemp, it unintentionally created a loophole that allowed many intoxicating hemp-derived products to enter the market.
Over the past several years, products containing Delta-8 THC, high-dose hemp-derived Delta-9 THC, THCA, and other intoxicating cannabinoids became widely available. Many of these products were sold right alongside traditional CBD products, creating confusion for consumers and regulators alike. (Wikipedia)
While Source CBD has always focused on wellness, many people began associating “hemp” and even “CBD” with products designed to produce a high.
The new federal law is largely intended to address that rapidly growing intoxicating hemp market.
Why are payment companies dropping CBD businesses?
Some payment processors—including Square—have decided they no longer want to process payments for hemp-derived products after the new law takes effect.
This is an important distinction:
That does NOT mean all CBD products suddenly become illegal.
It means some payment companies have chosen to exit the hemp industry altogether rather than navigate the changing regulations.
Unfortunately, businesses like Source CBD are being grouped together with every other hemp business, regardless of the products they actually sell.
What does this mean for Source CBD?
Honestly… not much.
We’ve been committed to producing high-quality CBD products for over a decade. We manufacture responsibly, test every batch, and remain committed to compliance as regulations continue to evolve.
Our team is already working through the payment processing transition, and while you may notice a different checkout experience in the future, our mission remains exactly the same.
