I wrote May 16th’s post on May 1st before we left for a two-week trip to Sardinia. We had a wonderful time. Sardinia has beautiful coastlines and mountains, friendly people, good food, and my new favorite dessert – seadas – a fried semolina dumpling stuffed with, lemon-scented Pecorino cheese and drenched in warm honey. We hiked a lot, visited two sea caves, kayaked once and ate a lot of pasta. I think I thought of Not Just a Frog Pond only twice, and did not bring a copy to obsess over. It was a good solid break.
Once home I made a few tweaks with some word choices and then began the process of formatting it for KDP. It went almost perfectly – I didn’t make the full bleed correctly on the cover the first time and I got error messages about fonts not being embedded. The second proof I requested showed everything as I want it. And so, without further ado, I present my latest book to you.
Not Just a Frog Pond is a narrative nonfiction story about what happens when one woman builds a frog pond. It has two features I love in picture books: a lot of back matter and two endings. I am really hoping the second ending is a surprise and delights the reader. The illustrations are done in watercolor on Arches paper with much of the back matter also illustrated. Currently it is available on Amazon, or if you are local, I would be happy to deliver one to you. I will be slowly seeing where else to place it.
