July 6, 2026, © Leeham News: We analyzed the JetZero Z4 Blended Wing Body (BWB) in a recent Bjorn’s Corner series. Then, in an American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics presentation and a recent media briefing, JetZero presented an updated Z4 design. The revised Z4 now has a V-tail, among other changes.
In the media briefing, JetZero also gave new information about the engine choice for the serial version, which we reported here. JetZero hopes to get a suitable engine from the US Air Force’s need to update the C-17 cargo aircraft with new engines.
We now analyze the changes: How will they affect performance and efficiency compared to a tube-and-wing aircraft of this size and capacity? Will the Z4 have an operational cost advantage over comparable jets?
We use our Aircraft Performance and Cost Model (APCM) to analyze the changed configuration. We extract performance data, operational efficiency, and costs. Finally, we develop the probable development and production costs, market price, and business plan for the Z4.
