“The word ‘all’ was used,“ DeBoer said. ”Whenever absolutes are used like that, I kind of question it right there, the words ‘never’ and ‘always’ and ‘all.’ I think that’s a little far-fetched. I don’t think we would have lost all of our receivers for anything. I will also say that there were guys who left. We had six receivers transfer out, just on this last year’s team already. There’s reasons for that. Who you’re hearing that from and what’s happening, I don’t know. That’s really not a concern of mine. I know that Jalen is a guy that really works hard to unite people.“
There was definitely some Draft Silly Season stuff going on the last week before the draft, and smear quotes from “anonymous executives” were flying around to try to get players to drop in the draft.
And hey, whoever leaked that one out helped Seattle to land Milroe late in the 3rd round to unanimous celebration, and the selection puts Milroe in a spot where he won’t be pressured to start immediately but also will only be behind a mid-tier QB who likely isn’t a long term solution for the team. It’s a good situation for him, no doubt.
Jalen is also already getting tossed into the Seattle media, who’s hinting at this same quote by asking him about relationships with WRs…. And, as usual, he gave a great answer:
In an interview April 28 with 93.3 KJR FM in Seattle, Milroe said “everything” is about timing, details and relationships when it comes to quarterbacks and receivers, saying he feels “comfortable with whoever” he plays with.
But in 2024, Milroe said he did face a challenge when it came to Alabama’s receiver room.
“Going into this season, we had a fresh group of receivers and skill position that we didn’t have the year before,” Milroe said. “We had a different crew of starting receivers than we did the year before. The guys that we had in 2023 had been in the system, had been dialed into the offense, I knew the guys a longer period of time. But that don’t change anything when it comes to preparation and playing. We’re not chasing stats. We’re chasing wins.”

Moving on to the Alabama roster for 2025, Tuscaloosa News gave us a nice piece on incoming TE transfer, Brody Dalton:
According to Pro Football Focus, 69.5% of Dalton’s 901 career snaps across four seasons were as a blocker. In 2024 for the Trojans, 378 of Dalton’s 548 snaps were as an inline tight end, while 104 were in the backfield.
“He’s an unselfish player that don’t mind blocking,” Benefield said. “That’s the kind of kid he is. Just wants to compete.”
With Alabama adding two tight ends in the late transfer portal, it’s clear what position the coaching staff wanted to improve. Obviously, it’s for depth and injury insurance. However, I’m not sure anyone other than Josh Cuevas should be expected to be any higher on the depth chart than either of the new transfers… Especially with nearly the whole group missing spring with injuries.
In basketball news, Derrion Reid chose his new home:
Reid joins an SEC program, meaning he’ll face the Crimson Tide at least one time next season. Reid was the final former Alabama player to announce his transfer destination as Naas Cunningham committed to UNLV, Jarin Stevenson went back home to North Carolina and Mouhamed Dioubate also stayed in the SEC by picking Kentucky.
