San Felice is one of our favorite Italian wine producers, the brand creating a wide range of wines from throughout Tuscany — though primarily Chianti Classico.
Today we look at five 2026 releases from the producer, all excellent and well worth your while.
2024 San Felice In Avane Chardonnay Toscana IGT – A new wine to me, this is a rather brooding expression of chardonnay. The restrained offering finds itself a bit bitter on the attack, notes of lime leaf tucking in to underripe apple, white florals, and lemon curd as the palate develops. The expected breakthrough into more exuberant fruitiness along with some salinity on the finish never really arrives, the affair stopping short before it feels like things really get going. Flashes of interest, however. B+ / $40
2023 San Felice Borgo Chianti Classico DOCG – Iconic Chianti, this offers a bright, cherry-fueled attack that is laced through and through with green herbs, hints of anise, and some dark chocolate. Ample acidity keeps the wine lively and refreshing, with citrusy notes developing as the finish approaches. There’s lemon and orange peel here, evoking thoughts of mostarda and cut grass. Quite versatile and lovely throughout. A- / $40
2022 San Felice Pugnitello Toscana IGT – Punchy and driven by tobacco and dark chocolate notes, San Felice (which is one of the premiere developers of pugnitello) has refined this grape to showcase its more savory characteristics — heavy on licorice, tobacco, light touches of tar — while simultaneously allowing fruit to peek through the cracks. Black cherry, blackberry, and late-game rhubarb all offer a juicy but almost wintry quality to the wine, though intense acidity and more moderated tannins keep everything both tight and lively. I’d hold this for a few years just to see what happens. A- / $95
2022 San Felice Il Grigio Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG – Surprisingly more fruit-forward than expected for a Riserva level Chianti Classico, this unabashedly cherry-fueled offers gentle tertiary notes of cloves and a touch of black tea, before a brighter raspberry-fueled finish comes into focus. Any licorice notes on the finish are more candied, fitting in perfectly with the theme to date. A- / $37
2022 San Felice La Pieve Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG – As with Borgo, this presents a classic Chianti structure — tightly wound cherry, layered tannins, and modest spice to even it all out. The anise is lightened up, which lets the chocolate character fire more freely, notes of graphite and turned earth both becoming prominent as the finish emerges. For all its depth of flavor, the wine is surprisingly straightforward, never deviating from its mission, though the cherry turns more toward blackberry on the lengthy, exuberant, and wholly enjoyable finish. Sometimes, a seamless through-line works out just fine. A / $95
