Trinosophes in Detroit presents American Primitive guitarist Ethan W. Olsen tonight, Thursday, August 20, with solo opening sets from Detroit musicians Tyler Hicks and 696 Blues Band (James Baljo). Doors are at 7:30 pm.
Olsen works in long-form, contemplative acoustic guitar music concerned with place and personal history. His new Carbon Records release, My God is a Consuming Fire, includes an interpolation of themes from Charles Ives’ General Booth Enters Into Heaven.
The venue also has shows on Friday, August 28, when ReGeneration, led by multi-instrumentalist Benjamin Miller, performs. The improvising quartet — Miller, Chris Peters, David Hurley and Brian McFarlane — combines guitar, bass, percussion and electronics with live sound manipulation.
Further ahead, Trinosophes has Glenn Jones with Nick Schillace on September 21, Windy and Carl Meet Optigan Conservatory on September 25, Spiral Galaxy, Viands and Matthew Smith on September 28, and Horse Lords on September 30.
Trinosophes is at 1464 Gratiot Avenue, Detroit.
