Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 222 Manga Review

SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:
Laxus switches tactics on Levia to get behind him and perform a German Suplex move on Levia. He combines his attack with his dragon lightning. Enraged, Levia switches to dragon form. He begins draining Laxus’s magic. However, before he can complete it, Scissor Runner’s dragon form slams into Levia. Scissor Runner states that Mira Jane threw him.
Mirajane is joined by Elfman, Richard, and Sorano. Mirajane suggests Elfman use his beast takeover to take dragon form. Elfman’s not keen on the idea as even changing his arm to dragon form earlier was painful. Levia and Scissor Runner do a combined breath attack. In defending against it, Laxus and Mirajane go down.
Seeing Laxus and Mirajane in pain, Elfman decides to man up.
Thoughts/Review:
Interesting that we skip Mirajane’s fight with Scissor Runner in Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 222. Well, without going back in time a bit, keeping track of this many fights isn’t an easy thing to do. While I’m fine with fights not dragging on, it does feel a bit wrong to just skip to where Mirajane has thrown Scissor Runner. Oh well.
The main purpose of the chapter is to allow Elfman to take a stand. We already know how powerful Laxus and Mirajane are. We just saw Laxus fight and not succeed. Mirajane just got an aftermath of an initial “win” before getting knocked down with Laxus. It is kind of pathetic, but it is what it is. I’m fine with Elfman taking a stand. But this feels like a “been there, done that” moment.
Also, it is laughable seeing the still beaten down Richard and Sorano. Plot always dictates when someone gets that nakama boost (Elfman in this case) and when plot requires them to be pathetic on the ground. Granted, Richard and Sorano aren’t on the ground, but their images show they are in no condition for a fight. And Mirajane and Laxus are on the ground so Elfman can step it up.
Final Thoughts and Conclusion
In the end, Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 222 just sets up Elfman to take a lead role in the next chapter. That’s fine for what it is.
