Why One AirPod Sounds Quieter Than the Other

If one AirPod sounds noticeably quieter than the other, the problem is not always the speaker itself. A few simple things can create an imbalance between left and right.

The first thing to check is the AirPods themselves. Earwax or debris around the speaker mesh can reduce volume on one side, especially if you tend to wear the same earbud more often. A careful clean can make a bigger difference than expected.

It is also worth checking the audio balance on your iPhone. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Audio & Visual and make sure the Balance slider is centred. If it has been moved accidentally, one side will sound quieter across supported headphones.

Transparency, Noise Control and personalised audio settings can sometimes make a difference to how each side feels too, particularly if the seal in one ear is poorer than the other.

Try swapping the AirPods between ears. If the quiet sound follows the same AirPod, the issue is likely with the earbud. If the imbalance stays with the same ear, fit or hearing may be contributing.

If cleaning, checking balance and reconnecting the AirPods does not help, resetting them is a reasonable next step before arranging service.
