It is hard to prove to those in charge of these things that he is very much alive. They have received copies of his death certificate so that is enough. Difficult to prove it to the police as well. Grebble is at his wits’ end, as anyone would be.
This is a fast-paced thriller about a high-tech identity erasure, and how little control we actually have if it happens to us. Written in James’ usual readable and relatable style, John Grebble is an interesting character with lots of grey symbolism to illustrate his isolated, singular personality and lifestyle. There is a fair bit of dark humour added to the tension and mystery. Good twist at the end. At only 73 pages this is an excellent way to spend an hour or so.
