Welcome to November — the Month of Gratitude
November is a special time when we slow down and place extra focus on gratitude, thankfulness, and appreciation. It’s the perfect month to help our families intentionally notice the blessings around us — and celebrate the people we’re thankful for!
So why not make thankfulness fun this year?
One of my favorite ways to lean into the season is by creating a Family Thankful Countdown — a day-by-day activity leading up to Thanksgiving that encourages kids (and parents!) to express gratitude in meaningful ways.
Each day offers a simple opportunity to be thankful for others, spread kindness, and recognize the blessings in our lives.
Start Your Own Family Thankful Countdown
I’ve created a simple, step-by-step guide to help you build this tradition in your home — no stress, no perfection required! It’s all about connection, joy, and teaching our kids the heart of gratitude.
Step 1 — Choose Your Countdown Days
• Full month of November (Nov 1–Thanksgiving)
• 12 Days of Thankfulness (start 12 days before Thanksgiving)
• Custom — whatever works best for your family
Step 2 — Create Your Countdown
Thankful Activity Jar
Write activities on slips → roll into scrolls → place in a decorated jar. Pull one each day!
Thankful Tree or Turkey
Cut leaves/feathers → write activities → kids choose one to do daily.
Envelope Countdown
Number envelopes → fill with activities → open one each morning or night.
Thankful Paper Chain
Write one activity per strip → tear off a link each day.
Step 3 — Choose Your Daily Thankful Activities
Below is a list of activities we can do to show our gratitude. Use these in your daily countdowns.
