Full disclosure – I’m not an expert chess player, but I can emulate that level of play for limited indica-fueled late-night runs on chess.com. The other night, I was playing an improv buddy of mine who is a Rocky-level resilient try hard. In the midst of our typical ten game series, I won a game in 12 moves. But that’s not what made it special. I won a game in 12 moves without capturing a single piece! In fact, no pieces of any kind were captured in the game. Is this normal? Because it seems like we just invented Pacifist Chess.

For posterity, here is the series of 12 moves that results in checkmate with no captures;
- e4 c5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 e6 4. d3 Nd4 5. Ng5 f6 6. h4 h6 7. Qh5+ Ke7 8. Qf7+
Kd6 9. Bf4+ e5 10. Qd5+ Kc7 11. Nf7 Ne7 12. Qd6# 1-0
